Anatomy
The CRS-1, differently than a GSR or a 7600, is built around a midplane. For each "linecard" there's a part that goes in the back, called Modular Services Card (MSC), and a part that goes in the front, called Physical Layer Interface Module (PLIM). The MSCs currently are all the same and work with any kind of PLIM. PLIMs are available for different kinds of transmission media.
